Judicial Reappointment Hearings On Friday, December 11th, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., several Virginia judges were scheduled for reappointment hearings in front of the Judicial Committee at the Virginia General Assembly. Virginia is for Children was there to inform members of the Committee about what's happening in Virginia courtrooms involving children. The Committee will make final decisions regarding reappointments on January 13, 2016.
We had several volunteers send in letters of opposition to judicial reappointments particularly when judges ruled against the best interest of the child. We also had several volunteers travel from the Tidewater area to oppose the reappointment of two judges who did not rule in the best interest of children. We applaud these courageous and dutiful acts of insisting upon judicial and legislative accountability and ethical decision-making. This is the way our government is designed. Despite our repeated attempts to inform the Virginia legislature about the injustices in Virginia family courtrooms, all Virginia judges who were up for reappointment were reappointed in January of 2016. However, we still view our testimonies as progress and successes. We will continue to create awareness of the injustices that occur to battered mothers and children in Virginia family courts. |
